Western Pleasure
Information and Videos

Western pleasure is a form of riding that judges a horse on its relaxed disposition. The horse should have good manners, a relaxed, slow speed of gait, and have the appearance of a comfortable ride. Almost any breed of horse can be ridden in competition; however, the American Paint Horse, American Quarter Horse and Appaloosa tend to be the most favored by judges.

Competitors are asked to walk, jog, lope in both directions, stop and back up. A horse that speeds up or slows, has incorrect head position, or breaks gait will incur faults by the judges. The videos below demonstrate this type of riding and competition.

This is a great instructional video on this style of riding. Gives great detail on correct movement at different gaits and more. Must watch!
