Team penning is a speed sport of horseback riding and requires teams of three to cut three specifically chosen cattle from a herd of 30 and round them into a small pen at the other end of the arena in 60-90 seconds. The winners are the team with the fastest time in completing the task.

Cutting is a timed event and requires separation of a cow from a small herd. After the cow is separated, it is the horse's job to keep the cow from returning to the herd using style and finesse. The horse and rider have two and half minutes to complete their showing.
