Roping Information and Videos

Roping is a timed rodeo event and includes several types of competition including; calf, team, an single steer. The goal of is to catch the calf by using a lariat, jump from the horse, tie three of the calf's legs to restrain it, and do it in the shortest time possible.

In team, there are two riders; the "header" who loops the steer's horns and the "heeler" who's job it is to loop the steer's back feet. Teams can be single gender or mixed gender.

Single steer or steer tripping is also a rodeo event where a steer is let out of a chute attached to an easily broken string that breaks when the steer reaches the end of it. When the string breaks it releases the barrier and the rider then throws a loop around the steers horns, wraps the slack around the steers hip and as the rider turns, it causes the steer to trip. The steer is then dragged by the horse while the rider jumps off, ties three of its legs together, then returns and mounts his horse to release the tension.

Below are several video demonstrations of these rodeo competitions
