Reining Information and Videos

Reining has been called the Western form of Dressage due to the fact that a horse must be in tune and responsive to the rider. The horse must also have a willing attitude and not show resistance to the riders cues, which should not be easily seen. All competitions are performed at the lope and gallop; combined with specific circle patterns, spins, and the signature sliding stop.

Horses used most in this discipline of riding are the Stock Horse Breeds, with the Quarter Horse being most common. The horse should have good leg and joint conformation due to the stress that occurs during maneuvers, responsiveness, excellent temperament, and be quick and precise. Below you will find several videos demonstrating this discipline of Western riding.

This video is of one of my favorite Natural Horsemen, Clinton Anderson, on Diaz and winning the Limited Division Breeders Cup.

This video features Stacy Westfall-she is Amazing!
