Polo Information and Videos
Polo is a sport that is played on horseback with teams competing against each other by driving a small white plastic or wooden ball into the opposing team's goal with a long-handled mallet. It is played on an open grass field up to 300 yards in length at top speed. Each team consists of four players and horses.
Most horses used in this sport are thoroughbreds with a height of 14.2 up to 16 hands. The horse is chosen to have quick bursts of speed, stamina, agility, and maneuverability and without injury can play from 18-20 years of age if able.
Other types include arena, cowboy, beach, and snow. In Cowboy, the riders use Western saddles, play indoors or out, have five players to a team, and use a large red rubber medicine ball and rubber headed mallet.
Here are a couple of videos that demonstrate the sport very well; including clips of the Cowboy and Snow version!
