Hunt Seat
Information and Videos

Hunt seat classes include; flat or hunter under saddle, English pleasure, over-fences, equitation, and in-hand classes. HS can be used to describe any type of forward seat riding; such as show jumping and eventing.

Flat or hunter under saddle classes are done on the flat and do not involve jumping. Judging is based on the horse's movement and manners at the walk, trot, and canter. In equitation classes, the rider is judged on position, seat, and aide's.

Pleasure classes are on the flat and the horse is judged on it's manner and suitability to the rider.

In over-fences classes, the horse is judged over a course of fences.

Equitation can include flat and over fences competition. The rider is judged on their position and overall effectiveness.

In-hand classes are non-riding classes where the horse is presented to the judge wearing only a halter. The horse is judged on conformation, movement, and soundness.

This video is of hunter under saddle competition on the flat.

Here's a video demonstrating amateur English equitation.

Another good video of hunter under saddle-magnificent horse!
