Horse Training Information and videos
Horse training is a vital part of horse ownership. It builds trust between you and your horse and decreases the risk for bad habits that your horse may develop. Without a "leader", horses can quickly learn to fend for themselves and learn habits that can become unsafe. It is always recommended that you seek out a professional equine trainer in your area to assist you with the goals you want to achieve.
Below you will find instructional training videos-covering everything from basic horse ground work to reining and show jumping instruction. I do not endorse or recommend any techniques shown here; however, you may find helpful information that may benefit you and your horse. Nothing takes the place of professional advice!
Here is a video of my eight year old daughter Trinity and her horse Katie-I had to add this here! It is a work in progress, but they seem to be coming along pretty good:) Covers ground work, yielding the hind quarters, backing, side passing, posting the trot, and bareback riding!
The links below will take you to instructional videos on the basics of horseback riding for both English and Western riders. Includes horse nature, principles, ground work-sensitizing, desensitizing, flexibility, sending, backing-mounted work; including backing, stopping, shoulder control, and more! I have separated the basics into ground and mounted work pages for easier viewing.
Western riding includes many different disciplines; including, reining, pleasure, cutting, and rodeo events such as, team penning, roping, barrel racing and so on. The link below will take you to instructional videos about how to teach a horse spins, rollbacks, stops, cutting, roping, barrel racing, Western pleasure, and more!
English horse riding also includes many disciplines; including, dressage, English pleasure, hunt seat, saddle seat, show jumping, etc. To learn more about English riding positions at the walk, trot, and canter click here.
Teaching your horse tricks can be both fun and beneficial. A horse that learns new things is a horse that uses more of the thinking side of his/her brain. Learning new tricks improves the communication between you and your horse as well. Follow the link and watch instructional videos on how to teach your horse to bow, lay down, shake hands, pick up a hat, nod, and more!
