Dressage Riding
Information and Videos

Dressage is a French term meaning "training". It is performed at all levels from amateur to Olympic competitions. The warmblood breed is most often seen in Olympic competitions. Lower levels include; First, Second, Third, and Fourth levels leading up to Grand Prix and international levels, such as the Olympics.

Below you will find videos demonstrating gaits and movements, including a video of The "World Famous" Lipizzaner Stallions.

Dressage

At the Olympic level, horses perform in the following gaits and movements:

Collected and extended walk, trot, and canter

Trot and canter half pass-horse travels on a diagonal line making both forward and sideways steps in each stride

Passage-a suspended, slow-motion trot

Piaffe-an approach to "trot in place"

One, two, and three tempi changes-changing leads in the canter

Canter Pirouettes-canter in a 360 degree circle almost in place

Here is a great video demonstrating Dressage at the Olympic level with all of the above gaits and movements

This video is of The "World Famous" Lipizzaner Stallions performing all movement, gaits, and the "airs" above the ground movements-amazing video and beautiful horses at their finest.
