Bucking Horse
Information and Videos

A bucking horse can be a challenge. It can occur for several reasons including; ill fitting tack, pain, inadequate or poor training, not wanting a rider on their back, and so on. If you know your horse has developed this habit, watch closely for cues that he is going to perform the behavior and try to stop it before it occurs. Below you will find video demonstrations on this behavior problem and suggestions on how to correct it.

Notice what is occurring when your horse does buck; is there a certain time, place, or action that is causing it? Check your horse's tack to see if it is fitting properly and have the farrier and veterinarian check your horse for hoof or other physical problems. There is always a reason that a horse is bucking.

When a horse begins to buck, sit deep in the saddle, keep your heels down, and disengage the hind-quarters by pulling back on one rein and flex the head to your leg-continue to turn in tight circles as needed to regain the horse's composure.

If you are not confident in sitting through a buck, ask a trainer or professional to assist you-the goal is to stop the behavior in your horse and if you are not a confident rider, the problem could just continue to escalate.

As always, continue working with your horse on the ground-getting them respectful on the ground is a helpful way to alleviate many problems before you ride.
