Biting Horse
Information and Videos

A biting horse is a potentially very dangerous animal. They can take off a finger or cause other very serious injury. This type of behavior must not be tolerated and should corrected as soon as it occurs so that it does not happen again or worse yet, become a habit.

Horses that bite are taking on the leadership role or are on their way to establishing it, so it is important to remind him who's boss in the relationship quickly and firmly.

Try to determine why your horse is displaying this behavior; Are they play nipping or bad attitude biting? As mentioned, horse's always have a reason for developing a bad behavior and usually it is because the handler has allowed it to happen and continues to let it happen without proper correction. When a horse does bite, it is imperative to be as black and white as possible that the behavior is not acceptable.

If you need more help with a horse that has a biting habit, Click Here for a very helpful ebook and more by trainer Wendy Hilton Smith of Cornerstone Training.

I decided on a Clinton Anderson video here because I believe that to alleviate most horse problem behaviors including biting, a handler should not hit their horse to correct a behavior.

A horse that is disrespectful is telling you that you are not being seen as the leader and they are calling the shots. The best way to build a respectful relationship with your horse is with a good ground work training program.
